People with the ability to influence are seen as leaders. They have developed skills that have turned their dreams into the dreams of others. Martin Luther King didn’t speak of his desire to execute a strategic plan in his speech in front of the Reflecting Pool in Washington DC that warm August day in 1963. He shared his passion for moving people toward a common goal that united a nation in a way few had dared hope. Dr. King’s passion was unquenchable. Not just because he wanted to see his dream become a reality but because he intimately understood the need for leaders to understand the responsibility of their role was to bring healing and awareness into the process. Healing and knowledge that allow the leader to grow as they lead- and to embrace failure and change so they can understand the needs of those around them. This becomes leadership that turns an idea into a vision that changes the world….

I have a great idea!!! I have the answer!!!! I see the way to go!!! But…how do I get people to do what I say? To buy-in to my idea or to take up the cause with as much passion as I do? Many leaders or aspiring leaders that I see, coach, and talk to have had moments of intense frustration with their “reach.” What we have been talking about across my articles is the ability to share passion and turn that into power. To use power to shift not just what is happening for us but for those we work for and with.
